About The Department

Intake of the Department = 120

The department of Mechanical engineering was established in the year 2011 to impart high quality mechanical skills to the blooming engineers under the umbrella of DSATM with an annual intake of 60 which increased to 120 in the year 2013. Research and Development centre established in 2016 offers Ph.D. programmes Affiliated to VTU, Belagavi. The strength of the department lies in its highly qualified and experienced expert teaching faculty besides its supportive, excellent non-teaching staff. The department is engaged in sponsored research, consultancy and testing majorly in the areas of advanced materials development, processing and design.


In consistence of vision of the Institute Department of Mechanical Engineering strive the best quality of the Teaching and Learning in Thermal, Design and Manufacturing with Innovations, sustainable technologies, entrepreneurship and certified courses for societal symbiosis.

  • M3: To establish MOU’s with industries/Organisations for student’s internship/joint research and consultancy for staff & Students.

  • PEO1:Mechanical Engineering students are very well trained to have knowledge and career based objectives to survive in this competitive world.
  • PEO2:The students are acquired additional knowledge on interdisciplinary skills & Leadership qualities to become an entrepreneur in anywhere in the Universe and updating themselves with Innovating Indigenous technologies.
  • PEO3:To motivate students to do higher studies in specific specialized areas of mechanical Engineering & explore possible profession in Researchers, academicians and self-employment.
  • PEO4:All students are convinced & attracted to do additional certified courses beyond the University curriculum, particularly in the field of advanced software’s, Non-traditional machining, Desktop etc

Program Outcomes (PO’s) based on NBA graduate attributes :

  • PO 1:Engineering Knowledge:Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an mechanical engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO 2:Problem Analysis:Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex mechanical engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences
  • PO 3:Design/Development of solutions:Design solutions for complex mechanical engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO 4:Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO 5:Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations

About The Course :

The Mechanical Engineering course shall be called the degree course in Bachelor of Engineering / Technology, abbreviated as B.E. / B.Tech. The course shall be of four academic years’ duration divided into eight semesters, each semester having duration of 16 weeks. The calendar of events in respect of the course shall be fixed by the university from time to time. The examination in all subjects shall be conducted at the end of each semester for all the eight semester.

Lab experiments are performed to determine the coefficient of discharge of flow measuring devices, hydraulic turbines and pumps.

Lab is utilized for conducting experiments like Flash & Fire Point of Diesel Oil, Detremination of Viscosity of Lubricating Oil , Performance test of 4 stroke Diesel Engine, Petrol Engine etc.

Students Achievements

  • LPU has organized an Annual International Go-kart Championship in which 68 Universities participated and in the final, Go-karts of 25 Universities participated, Showcasing excellent design, sturdy construction and efficient kart. The team DSI Racing (DSATM, Bengaluru), has won first prize and a cash price of Rs. 1 Lakh.
  • Mr. ABHIJEITH KUMAR bearing USN 1DT12ME001 has got “Shri Gopal Jinagouda Gold Medal” Award for securing highest marks in the subject Material Science & Metallurgy at 2nd year level in B.E. Mechanical Engineering during Convocation at VTU on 21-01-2017.
