About The Department
Intake of the Department = 120
The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2011 to impart high quality mechanical skills to the blooming engineers of DSATM under the umbrella of “Dayananda Sagar Institutions”. The Department is committed to well being and all round development of its students and faculty with an annual intake of 120.
Research and Development centre was established in year 2016 which offers Ph.D. program Affiliated to VTU, Belagavi, facilitating research and consultancy works. The strength of the department lies in its highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty besides its supportive and excellent non-teaching staff, with state of the art laboratory facilities.
The department is engaged in sponsored research, consultancy and testing in the areas of advanced materials development, processing, design and Characterization and has a dedicated platform called MAKER SPACE where the students can execute their innovative ideas. The main focus of our curriculum to the students is to promote technical competence, problem solving skills and innovation of new technologies like such as advanced composites , 3D Printing.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO's):
- PEO 1: The graduates will be able to apply practical knowledge and career based objectives to survive in advanced technological world
- PEO 2: The graduates are acquired with additional knowledge on interdisciplinary subjects and skills, leadership qualities to become a successful entrepreneur
- PEO 3: The graduates will be able to pursue their higher studies in specialized areas and advances of mechanical engineering & explore possible profession as an researchers, academicians or self-employment
- PEO 4: All Graduates are made to undergo to do additional certified courses in the field of advanced technologies and interdisciplinary software’s
Program Outcomes (PO’s) based on NBA graduate attributes :
- PO 1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
- PO 2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
- PO3 : Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
- PO 4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
- PO 5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
- PO 6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
- PO 7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
- PO 8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
- PO 9: Individual and team work: An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
- PO 10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
- PO 11: Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
- PO 12: Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
About The Course :
The Mechanical Engineering course shall be called the degree course in Bachelor of Engineering / Technology, abbreviated as B.E. / B.Tech. The course shall be of four academic years’ duration divided into eight semesters, each semester having duration of 16 weeks. The calendar of events in respect of the course shall be fixed by the university from time to time. The examination in all subjects shall be conducted at the end of each semester for all the eight semester.

Students Achievements
- LPU has organized an Annual International Go-kart Championship in which 68 Universities participated and in the final, Go-karts of 25 Universities participated, Showcasing excellent design, sturdy construction and efficient kart. The team DSI Racing (DSATM, Bengaluru), has won first prize and a cash price of Rs. 1 Lakh.
- Mr. ABHIJEITH KUMAR bearing USN 1DT12ME001 has got “Shri Gopal Jinagouda Gold Medal” Award for securing highest marks in the subject Material Science & Metallurgy at 2nd year level in B.E. Mechanical Engineering during Convocation at VTU on 21-01-2017.
